Proposing to the person you love is a nerve-wracking moment that can make a huge difference in your life. It’s not surprising that most people want it to be a special event and often plan it out ahead of time. As proposing marriage carries the inherent risk of rejection, you will want to be confident that she (or he) feels the same way before you go ahead and ask. But if you are already fairly sure your love is reciprocated, here are a few ideas to make your marriage proposal a good story for your kids!
In a Canoe
Proposing while you are drifting on the serene waters of a lake in a canoe is very memorable, very romantic and will surely guarantee a yes. Make it part of an overnight trip and celebrate your upcoming marriage under the stars.
In a Hot Air Balloon
Rent a hot air balloon, and while you are both floating among the clouds looking out over the world, get on your knees, present your partner with a bouquet and ask your partner to marry you. You can make it extra special by scattering flowers or petals into the air to trail behind you.
On a Mountaintop
During the spring, when the flowers are blooming, arrange for a hike along your sweetheart’s favourite trail or destination. When you are at the top of the mountain, pop your question. You could celebrate with a bottle of wine and a picnic with a view!
Through The Mail
Write her a love letter and at the end of it, ask her to marry you. Mail it. Try to be there when she receives the letter, but in any case, always have the ring on you so you are prepared to give it to her when she shows you the letter. You can also send your proposal to her as a video on YouTube.
In a Helicopter
Take her on a helicopter ride. Pre-arrange with the ground staff to have a large sheet with the message “Marry Me” so that she will see it when you are in the air. Take a picture together with the sign the background as a memento.
On Their Birthday
What a better birthday present can there be than to have your love propose to you? On your partner’s birthday, plan something special for the day. You can start with breakfast in bed and go from there. At the end of the day, pamper them in the bath and, while they are soaking, cook dinner. Dim the lights, light the candles and after they have enjoyed the meal, ask them to marry you.
On Your Relationship Anniversary
On the anniversary of when you first met, plan a special date. Make it different from the dates you usually have together. Your partner will know something is up, but keep it a secret until the time you choose to propose. You could go to the place where you first met or where you first fell in love.
