Should You Take a Phone With You On Holiday?

Swimming In The iPoolDeciding whether or not to take your mobile on holiday with you is something that we all contemplate before we go away. The idea of a holiday with no phones, no interruptions and no disruptions is something that will be appealing to all of us, but in reality this is not always possible. This article considers different types of holiday and scenarios in which a phone may be important to have with you.

What if the Boss Calls?

One thing that you certainly need to get into your mind whilst on holiday is that if the boss calls then he shouldn’t be calling. A holiday is taken for a reason and a large part of this is to get away from work and responsibility. A workplace will not simply collapse because you are away for a week and if it does then it is important understand that you have too much pressure laid on your shoulders and that you may be in for a pay rise when you get back. Taking a phone on holiday in case the boss calls you is a one-way ticket to divorce and something that you certainly shouldn’t do.

How Safe is your Accommodation?

If you are travelling and staying in 5 star hotels then this really isn’t something that you need to consider, but security is something worth considering. Phones are very expensive and whilst you may wish to have yours with you, leaving a phone in Sydney hostels on charge whilst you sleep may not be the most sensible idea.

Different styles of accommodation offer different things and hostels offer fun over security for sure. If your hostel has lockers then this is unlikely to be a problem, but it is certainly worth keeping security in mind if you wish to forget all your worries and mooch about the city.

Is it a Road Trip?

When taking a road trip there are a number of different factors to consider. Firstly you will need to consider the fact that you may break down in the middle of nowhere. Finding yourself stranded without a phone somewhere far outside of Sydney is not a pleasant experience and one that you will certainly want to avoid.

Another consideration is that having a phone can be great fun on a road trip. If you can hook some helmet speakers up to your bike whilst you ride through the deserts of the Northern Territories, then you can enjoy some seriously entertaining conversations as you view the beauty around you. On a road trip, phones can make a wonderfully positive difference to your experiences.

How Will You Map your Holiday?

One thing that we arguably do far too much of in our lives is mapping where we are and what we are doing. When on holiday it is, however, very nice to utilise geo-tagging to ensure that we never lose our memories of where we were and what we did. Phones offer the perfect tool for mapping a holiday because they have photo capabilities and geo-location services too. Whilst mapping your holiday in this manner can be expensive in terms of data, there are certainly benefits to having memories recorded with such detail.
